New Form I-9 Released for Immediate Use
All employers are required to complete IRS Form I-9 for all newly-hired employees to verify their identity and authorization to work in the United States. On March 8, 2013, a new version of the Form I-9 was released for immediate use with new hires. Older versions of the form will not be accepted after May 7, 2013. Form I-9 is now two pages, with expanded instructions and new fields for employee information.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) maintains a website, I-9 Central, to support Form I-9 users and has scheduled free webinars to help employers learn about the new form. The new Form I-9 may be downloaded at http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-9.pdf or forms may be ordered by calling USCIS toll-free at 1-800-870-3676.
