New York Businesses: Are you ready for the Shield Act requirements?
This Spring, New York State’s Shield Act (Stop Hacks and Improve Electronic Data Security Act) goes into effect. The Shield Act requires any business that owns or licenses computerized data which includes private information of New York residents to construct and maintain a prescribed threshold data security framework. Organizations impacted by the Shield Act should be assessing their data security policies and programs in light of the new law, which carries hefty penalties for non-compliance. MCCM, in association with CE Tech, Doyle Security and E Waste+ is offering a free seminar on how to become Shield Act compliant. The program is ideal for business owners and executives, as well as compliance, IT and HR managers. The seminar will provide:
- An overview of the NY Shield Act, and what it means to your business – deadlines, requirements, breach notifications and penalties
- Required administrative, technical and physical safeguards
- A NYS Shield Act “to do” list
